{"id":178529,"date":"2014-09-08T04:00:24","date_gmt":"2014-09-07T18:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=178529"},"modified":"2014-09-08T04:00:24","modified_gmt":"2014-09-07T18:00:24","slug":"activities-lined-cultural-heritage-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/activities-lined-cultural-heritage-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Activities lined up for Cultural Heritage Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Northern Marianas Humanities Council, in collaboration with the Carolinian Affairs Office, will be launching its activities for this year\u2019s Cultural Heritage Month. These include the launching of a photo exhibit and identification project. <\/p>\n<p>Historical photos of Carolinian people during the German, Japanese, and U.S administrations will be on display during \u201cUumw Night,\u201d which is every Friday of this month. It will begin Sept. 12 from 5pm to 9pm at the Carolinian Utt on Beach Road, Garapan and is open to the public. <\/p>\n<p>The council and CAO seeks the community\u2019s help in identifying people in the photographs and the significance of their traditional cultural attire.<\/p>\n<p>The council will also have a special presentation on the Chamorro language on Sept. 18. The event is from 6pm to 8pm and is free of charge.  <\/p>\n<p>Cultural Heritage Month coordinator Gordon Marciano also wants to remind the public of CAO\u2019s activities as well.<\/p>\n<p>On Sept. 23, there will be a ceremony to honor the 13 Fishermen who lost their lives at sea and are memorialized by the 13 Fishermen\u2019s Monument along Beach Road. This will be followed by Chief Aghurubw Day on Sept. 27, to honor the Carolinian navigator who resettled his people in the Northern Marianas in 1815 after a major typhoon destroyed their islands in Satawal, which is now part of the Federated States of Micronesia.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the council\u2019s events, contact 235-4785.
