{"id":178690,"date":"2014-09-09T04:00:37","date_gmt":"2014-09-08T18:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=178690"},"modified":"2014-09-09T04:00:37","modified_gmt":"2014-09-08T18:00:37","slug":"nmi-gets-warm-welcome-nippon-domannaka-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/nmi-gets-warm-welcome-nippon-domannaka-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"NMI gets warm welcome at Nippon Domannaka Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Northern Mariana Islands delegation received a warm welcome at the 16th Annual Nippon Domannaka Festival in Nagoya, Japan last weekend, Aug. 29-31, taking advantage of the opportunity to promote the islands to potential visitors.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 40,000 dancers representing 209 teams performed for an estimated 2.2 million visitors during the festival, which was spread across 20 stages throughout the city. (Contributed Photo)\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>The NMI delegation of indigenous Carolinian dancers joined dance troupes from Hokkaido in the north to Fukuoka in the south, as well as several overseas groups. <\/p>\n<p>Saipan Mayor Marian Tudela and 2014 Miss Liberation Queen Pressel Camacho also attended and received media coverage of their meeting with the Nagoya Mayor Takashi Kawamura.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMayor Kawamura extended his appreciation to Mayor Tudela for joining this year\u2019s event,\u201d said Marianas Visitors Authority marketing manager Bruce Bateman. \u201cNagoya appreciates the CNMI\u2019s presence in the dance festival, a program undertaken 13 years ago to foster goodwill with the city through cultural exchange. Once again, we have been successful in receiving free media exposure for the NMI through our participation in this event.
