Gov. Eloy S. Inos appointed four individuals to serve as initial members of the scholarship board of directors, some six months after he signed into law a bill establishing a new scholarship office as an autonomous agency rather than under the governor\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
Their appointments, pursuant to Public Law 18-40, require the Senate\u2019s advice and consent.<\/p>\n
Inos\u2019 appointees representing Saipan include Dr. Alfred B. Ada, Jacqueline Che, and Kodep Ogumoro-Uludong, while representing Tinian is Chellette San Nicolas.<\/p>\n
The scholarship board of directors reviews applications for student grants, student loans, and other student financial assistance programs that the CNMI Scholarship Office administers.<\/p>\n
Inos appointed Ada yesterday, while Che, Ogumoro, and San Nicolas were appointed Friday.<\/p>\n
Ada is currently the Public School System\u2019s Career and Technical Education Program manager and a former principal of Kagman High School and William S. Reyes Elementary School. <\/p>\n
Che is with Northern Marianas College, while the two others are also educators. Ogumoro-Uludong and Che were among those asked to resign from the CNMI scholarship board last year when it was still under the governor\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
The new appointment is a four-year term. But because the terms of the \u201cinitial\u201d members are staggered when the board is established, the term of each member will be determined by the drawing of lots.<\/p>\n
Therefore, if confirmed, each of the four appointees will serve either a term of three or four years.<\/p>\n
Inos, in four separate letters to Senate President Ralph Torres (R-Saipan), said he\u2019s confident that the appointees will devote their time and efforts on the important board.<\/p>\n
Because the Senate has just received the governor\u2019s appointees, a public hearing on their nominations have yet to be scheduled by the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Governmental Investigations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
