\nDivision of Youth and Services and Kagman Sparks recorded contrasting wins to open their respective bids in the 2014 BANMI Youth League on a positive note.<\/p>\n

Kagman had their debut game in the U21 division last Monday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium and eked out a 57-54 victory over the Garapan Rollers, while DYS whipped the Ol\u2019Aces, 68-44, in the U18 pairing last Tuesday.<\/p>\n

DYS walked away with a big winning margin despite falling behind by double digits early in the game. The Ol\u2019Aces took a 23-12 advantage after the first canto, but collapsed in the last three, as they were held to single digits in scoring in each of the remaining three quarters.<\/p>\n

Dennis Moses and Dizon Magofna, who combined for 16 of their total points in the first frame, were scoreless in the second quarter where the Ol\u2019Aces were limited on 8 points. DYS, on the other hand, doubled up the Ol\u2019Aces with Tristan Montes leading the recovery, tallying 7. With DYS getting its form and the Ol\u2019Aces slowing down, the former moved within 3 at the break, 28-31.<\/p>\n

DYS then completed the turnaround in the second half, as the Ol\u2019Aces continued to struggle offensively in the third and fourth quarters. The Ol\u2019Aces scored only 6 markers in the third and had 7 in the fourth compared to the 19 and 21 of DYS.<\/p>\n

Aaron Pamintuan knocked in 7 of his 9 points in the third period to help DYS steal the driver\u2019s seat, 47-37. Four other DYS players contributed at least one field goal apiece in the third canto, while only three players scored for the Ol\u2019Aces.<\/p>\n

DYS kept its balance offense in the fourth period to pad its lead en route to the easy win, while only Jonrey Gilles recorded more than 2 points for the Ol\u2019Aces, who were held to another three-field goal performance in the payoff canto.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in the U21 game, Jonathan Santos drilled all his 6 points in the fourth period, while Allen Yu canned two crucial free throws in Kagman\u2019s close win over the G-Rollers.<\/p>\n

The G-Rollers were ahead entering the fourth, 44-41, after Y.J. Nakayama banked a triple at the end of the third canto, but lost the precarious lead as Santos took over in the final canto for the Sparks. Santos stepped up and joined forces with Yu and Jason Lampkin in lifting Kagman to the 3-point win. Lampkin and Yu added 4 points each in the fourth period and finished in twin digits with the latter firing 18 and the former chipping in 16.<\/p>\n

Mike Arciaga led the G-Rollers\u2019 losing cause with his game-high 21 points, but was held to one field goal and a free throw in the fourth frame. The G-Rollers dropped their opener after making only four field goals in the final quarter. <\/p>\n
