{"id":179810,"date":"2014-09-22T04:00:40","date_gmt":"2014-09-21T18:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=179810"},"modified":"2014-09-22T04:00:40","modified_gmt":"2014-09-21T18:00:40","slug":"dfw-deploys-new-fish-aggregation-devices-sport-fisheries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/dfw-deploys-new-fish-aggregation-devices-sport-fisheries\/","title":{"rendered":"DFW deploys new fish aggregation devices for sport fisheries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Division of Fish and Wildlife&#8217;s Fisheries Research Section has just completed the deployment of 2 new Fish Aggregation Devices, also known as FADs at the following locations:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Latitude\tLongitude\tBuoy<\/strong><br \/>\n14\u00b059&#8217;45.8&#8243;N\t145\u00b027&#8217;25.3&#8243;E\tFF<br \/>\n14\u00b059&#8217;33.6&#8243;N\t145\u00b043&#8217;45.8&#8243;E\tCC<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are FADs?<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-179810 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon '>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/dfw-deploys-new-fish-aggregation-devices-sport-fisheries\/fads-pix2\/'>FADS-pix2<\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon '>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/dfw-deploys-new-fish-aggregation-devices-sport-fisheries\/fads-pix1\/'>FADS-pix1<\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>FADs may be considered as a structural oasis in the open ocean, providing a home or hiding place for bait fishes and a feeding ground for pelagic fishes such as skipjack tuna, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, and mahimahi.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why FADs?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>FADs provide an alternative method of fishing compared to shore-based fishing. Fish aggregating devices benefit fishermen by: maintaining a set location where target, pelagic fishes may be caught; minimizing the time spent searching for schools of fish or flocks of birds; reducing fuel consumption when fishing; reducing cost to fishermen; and by obtaining information on fish and FAD interactions.
