{"id":180045,"date":"2014-09-24T04:00:21","date_gmt":"2014-09-23T18:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=180045"},"modified":"2014-09-24T04:00:21","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T18:00:21","slug":"nmc-business-degree-program-moving-forward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/nmc-business-degree-program-moving-forward\/","title":{"rendered":"NMC business degree program \u2018moving forward\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over 60 have applied for and are enrolled in Northern Marianas College\u2019s new business bachelor\u2019s program; however, a number of these students were not eligible to take the degree\u2019s courses, with the college instead opening more lower-level courses to allow the students to finish prerequisites for the degree, according to information obtained during the program committee report at the college\u2019s board meeting last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of [the students] expect to have their prerequisites complete in order to enroll in the program come January,\u201d college president Dr. Sharon Hart told the Board of Regents.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the many students needing prerequisites, offering the upper-level courses would not get classes to their minimum number of students, according to Amanda Allen, director of Distance Learning.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, a course needs 10 students to run.<\/p>\n<p>A course schedule dated on Aug. 8 last month, provided by the college\u2019s website, shows that out of the 12 courses listed for the new program, only two were not cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>Chavel Green, department chair of the new business program, noted in an interview at the time that while the schedule did show classes to be cancelled, students were accommodated, with lower-level prerequisite courses opened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo students were turned away in the program,\u201d Hart said at the board meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Business courses run during the day and evening, with the feedback that the college has been getting from the program so far \u201clooking for very good,\u201d according to Hart. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over 60 have applied for and are enrolled in Northern Marianas College\u2019s new business bachelor\u2019s&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":47,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[56,69,133,938],"class_list":["post-180045","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-business-3","tag-nmc","tag-run","tag-sharon-hart"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/180045","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/47"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=180045"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/180045\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=180045"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=180045"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=180045"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
