CUNNINGHAM <\/strong><br \/>\n<em>U.S. 7th Fleet Public Affairs<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Shiloh arrived on Saipan on Sept. 23 for a scheduled port visit.<\/p>\n<p>The visit will give the crew with an operational break after participating in Valiant Shield, a U.S.-only exercise integrating 18,000 U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army, and Marine Corps personnel.<\/p>\n<p>This port call also provides an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between Saipan and the U.S. to help maintain a safe maritime environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m always happy to experience new ports,\u201d said Fire Controlman 2nd Class Abraham O. Nwamkpa, from Corpus Christi, Texas. \u201cSaipan has a powerful place in our history. As a United States\u2019 sailor I\u2019m honored to share in it as well as enjoy the beautiful island\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s so much to look forward to,\u201d said Lt. j.g. Julia Kranz, Shiloh\u2019s force protection officer. \u201cNot only is there a lot of history, but great opportunities to scuba-dive at a world-renowned dive-site.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In addition to sightseeing, the ship plans on participating in community relations events at a local school. <\/p>\n<p>Shiloh is on patrol with the George Washington Strike Group in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By MCS3 KEVIN V.
