The voter awareness group Maximum Impact Leading Excellence, or MILE CNMI, has scheduled a meeting with Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP) on Oct. 4 at his campaign office on Middle Road, Chalan LauLau, according to the youth group organizer, Irene Tantiado.<\/p>\n
In an interview, Tantiado said the biggest issue discussed would be S.744, noting that the group would like to learn more about the bill that pushes for comprehensive immigration reform.<\/p>\n
\u201c[Sablan] will explain to us this bill and how he plans to help the CNMI youth as a whole,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
According to Tantiado, they have not met and will not meet with Sablan\u2019s opponent for U.S. delegate, the Democratic Party\u2019s Andrew Salas.<\/p>\n

Tantiado said the group feels that meeting with Sablan is the \u201cbiggest meeting\u201d for them, noting that it was initially organized due to its concern with the status of guest workers and their children.<\/p>\n
The group was repeatedly told in meetings with gubernatorial candidates that the local government cannot really help with issues concerning contract workers as the matter is up to federal discretion.<\/p>\n
Tantiado described Sablan as someone who is directly involved with these issues, and invited not only the youth but also older voters as well to participate in what may be \u201crare chance\u201d to talk with their delegate.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are all excited about this,\u201d she said of their final meeting with candidates for the November election.<\/p>\n
She called the meetings the group has had over the last few months \u201ceducational.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fact that they talked to the candidates, it gets them more excited and eager to be involved in the community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
According to her, MILE has offered to be volunteers at Saipan Chamber of Commerce\u2019s upcoming forums with senatorial, delegate, and gubernatorial candidates.<\/p>\n
