Officers for the Associated Students of the Northern Marianas College were sworn in at an investiture ceremony yesterday.<\/p>\n
The students were joined by parents, friends and college officials, and were encouraged to be the voice for their fellow students.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of the best decisions made as an administrator at the college was not forgetting that I was once a student, and putting myself in their shoes,\u201d Manny Castro, the college\u2019s director of admission said in his opening remarks.<\/p>\n
He encouraged the officers to listen to the students as much as they could, and that \u201ca great chief was an ordinary Indian first.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cKeep that to heart and let that guide you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Riya Nathrani was sworn in as ASNMC president, Salvi Villanueva as vice president, Andrew Villanueva as secretary, and Roman Tudela as treasurer.<\/p>\n
Adrian Pangelinan, Keisuke Yoshida, and Guadalupe Camacho were sworn in as senators.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs your newly elected president, I will take into account each of your interests and voices in the many issues we will face in the upcoming year,\u201d Nathrani said in her speech.<\/p>\n
Nathrani addressed the college\u2019s Board of Regents last month over a proposed tuition and fee hike. She presented a survey and petition challenging the hike.<\/p>\n
Student Services dean Leo Pangelinan encouraged the officers to be a part of the decision making at the college and not let their voices be muffled as there are a lot of issues on the table, like talks of tuition increase or offering more four-year bachelor\u2019s programs.<\/p>\n
