\nSaipan Southern High School and Mount Carmel School scored lopsided wins over their respective foes as games in the 2014 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Girls Basketball League finally pushed through last Friday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.<\/p>\n

The SSHS Lady Manta Rays overcame a slow start in completing a 42-27 drubbing of the Kagman High School Lady Ayuyus, while the MCS Lady Knights used a balanced scoring in coasting to a 67-30 victory over defending champions MHS Lady Dolphins.<\/p>\n

It was a helter-skelter first quarter as the Lady Rays and Ayuyus exchanged one sloppy play after another, resulting to a 9-6 tally in favor of Kagman at the end of the opening frame.<\/p>\n

Southern\u2019s Mary Kay Alferos then finally found her shooting touch in the second period scoring all of her team\u2019s 13 points to give the Lady Mantas a 19-13 halftime spread. Alferos highlighted her second-quarter show with a three-pointer and a layup off a steal from Kagman\u2019s Kelsey Lizama to turn the momentum to SSHS\u2019 side.<\/p>\n

Kagman went scoreless for long period of times in the second canto and was held to a dismal 4 points to lose the driver\u2019s seat.<\/p>\n

Alferos, on the other hand, continued with her hot shooting in the second half as Southern pulled away, while Kagman helped the Lady Rays\u2019 cause when it failed to find the basket a number of times in the final half of the match. <\/p>\n

Alferos led all scorers with her 31 points. Natasha Wgirausui paced Kagman with her 8 markers, while Rose Jones and Lizama added 6 and 4, respectively.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in the first game, MCS had an easy outing opposite MHS.<\/p>\n

The Lady Knights broke the game wide open early as they capitalized on every turnover committed by the Lady Dolphins. It was a frustrating day for MHS as it was held to a season-low 3 points in the third quarter and started the fourth facing a daunting task of overhauling a 43-point deficit, 16-59.<\/p>\n

Jan Travilla scattered 17 points for MCS, while Karleen Reyes and Tawnie Manibusan chipped in 14 and 10 markers, respectively.<\/p>\n

Alyanna Garon paced MHS\u2019 losing cause with her 14 points, while Maria Theresa Dalusong and Abigail Bergosa were the only two other scorers for the Lady Dolphins, adding 9 and 7.<\/p>\n

The MISO caging kicked off only last week as three play dates were rescheduled due to various reasons. League executive director for operations Nick Gross said the make-up games will be played on Oct. 18, Jamboree Day Saturday. The postponed matches scheduled for Oct. 1, 3 and 8 will be played accordingly, starting at 9am at the MHS gym.<\/p>\n

\u201cGame times are subject to changes so please make sure to have your teams on-site (MHS gym) and ready to play well in advance of your scheduled time,\u201d said Gross.<\/p>\n
