Ada Gymnasium.

Monday’s matches were called off because of the Cultural Day holiday. The Judiciary-CHC and DCCA-DPS games will be rescheduled at a later date.

At the resumption of the league, the Feds did not put much effort in coasting to an 88-44 victory over CHC to nail its third win in as many games, while CUC escaped with a 73-70 decision against Customs to barge in the win column.

The Feds used its size advantage to the hilt, opening up with a 10-0 run as CHC could not find its mark. Rocel Cariaso made CHC’s first basket of the game with a corner jumper in the 5:58 mark of the opening period.

From there, the Feds scored in bunches, while CHC’s points come in trickles bridging the first and second quarters. A Leo Apelo 3-pointer, after four tries, gave the Feds its first double-digit lead, 28-8, 5:07 to go in the second canto. The Feds were never threatened after that.

Apelo paced the Feds with 23 points, while Ronnel Gamboa and J. Sablan added 15 and 13 markers, respectively.

Cariaso was the lone CHC player in double digits with 13, while Jack Palacios scattered 8 points.

Earlier, CUC showed endgame poise in outlasting Customs, 70-73.

Holding on to a slim 68-67 advantage, Iramk Simada buried a 3-pointer to give CUC some cushion with 2:27 left in the fourth period. Don Teregeyo’s split free throw and a Don Brennan twinner had Customs threatening at 70-71 with less than one minute left in the game clock.

Customs had a number of chances to regain the lead but its shots failed to hit the mark. Tony Diaz then scored the insurance basket for CUC for a 73-70 breathing room that turned out to be the final tally, as Customs again could not score on its offensive set.

Diaz finished with a game-high 27 points, while Robert Lieto, Juan Camacho, and Oscar Sablan combined for 29 markers for CUC, which improved to 1-1.

Brennan led Customs’ losing cause with his 14, while Jack Cepeda and Teregeyo contributed 13 and 11, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Feds will shoot for its fourth straight win when its faces DCCA in Monday’s 6:30pm first game, while Customs takes on Judiciary at 8pm.

First Game
CUC 73—Diaz 27, Lieto 11, Camacho 9, Sablan 9, Santos 6, Simada 4, Masga 3, Benavente 2, Madrecheluib 2.

Customs70—Brennan 14, Cepeda 13, Teregeyo 11, L.
