Physicians, nurses, and counselors from Guam\u2019s Seventh Day Adventist Clinic visited Saipan last week to offer talks on healthy-living and free health screenings.<\/p>\n

They were at Seventh Day Adventist School on Saipan on Friday and led groups of kids through healthy-living advice and free health screenings.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love to go on mission trips to serve in our community,\u201d said Monica Cardenas, RN.<\/p>\n

The group met with about 50 children on Friday, from the third to fifth grade.<\/p>\n

The group\u2019s goal is to promote good health that will help these children be successful in life, Cardenas said.<\/p>\n

\u201cExercise, earth, rest, fresh air, water, sunshine, and trust in God\u201d were some of the topics they talked about with the children, Cardenas said.<\/p>\n

Members of the team have been to Russia, South and Central America, Asia, and the Caribbean on similar mission trips, according to Cardenas.<\/p>\n

\u201cShould we drink soda?\u201d one physician asked a circle of students last Friday.<\/p>\n

All of the students shot their arms up with an answer.<\/p>\n

One student asked if the cookies and ice cream he ate that morning was a bad thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy is it good? Why is it not good?\u201d nurse Atsushi Tamamuro asked the students on the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s a good way to make them less afraid of doctors and nurses,\u201d Marcenas said on the health screenings for the children.
\nThis way, they can see that it is fun and it is important for the health, she said.<\/p>\n

Besides Cardenas, physician Julie Namm, physician assistant Tina Heinrich, registered nurses Atsushi Tamamuro and JP Roa, counselor Silaine Marquez, paramedic Ben Stern, mental health professional Cheryl Stern, and teacher Luis Larrazabal made up the rest of the team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
