{"id":182549,"date":"2014-10-21T04:00:51","date_gmt":"2014-10-20T18:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=182549"},"modified":"2014-10-21T04:00:51","modified_gmt":"2014-10-20T18:00:51","slug":"40-pairs-join-tan-holdings-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/40-pairs-join-tan-holdings-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 40 pairs join Tan Holdings Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Tan Holdings Open 2014 Badminton Tournament kicked off last weekend with matches in the men\u2019s and women\u2019s doubles, and mixed doubles played at the TSL Sports Complex.<\/p>\n<p>This is the third edition of the annual badminton tournament with more than 40 pairs slugging it out for the division titles at stake.<\/p>\n<p>The pair of Leo Su and Camille Samonte-Bocago moved closer to claiming a spot in the next round after winning their games in the mixed doubles B division. Su and Samonte-Bocago downed the tandem of Jeff Riman and Cheng Zingapan, 20-21, 21-19, 21-20, a fitting follow-up to their 21-11, 21-18 demolition of  Jorge  Olanda and Marylyn Montano.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_182554\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-182554\" style=\"width: 297px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a attid=\"182554\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/nmba.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/nmba-297x300.jpg\" alt=\"Cheng Zingapan prepares to serve during her mixed doubles match with partner Jeff Riman against the duo of Leo Su and Camille Samonte-Bocago last Sunday night in the Tan Holdings Open 2014 at the TSL Sports Complex. (Jon Perez)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Olanda and Montano were eliminated in the mixed doubles B after dropping a 21-20, 21-18 match against Roger Vales and Loyda Ito. Montano bounced back in the mixed doubles 40-up class, as she teamed up with Edwin Montoya in nailing back-to-back victories. Montano and Montoya bested the husband-and-wife tandem of Jojo and Merlie Savellano, 16-21, 21-17, 21-14, then moved closer to earning a spot to the next round with a 21-8, 21-8 thrashing of the Vales-Annette Ta pairing.<\/p>\n<p>In other early results, Tae Ho Kim and Loyda Ito downed Eydie Uy and Lucelle Lampera in the mixed doubles 40-over division, 21-8, 21-16, while Janelle Pangelinan and Janine Savellano defeated Mae Ito and Havika Farro, 21-13, 21-18, in the women\u2019s doubles A.<\/p>\n<p>Hannah Choi and Rowena Sison also booked their first win in the women\u2019s doubles A with a 20-21, 21-10, 21-10 triumph over the Loyda Ito-Ana Alvarez duo.<\/p>\n<p>Patirck Fernandez and Baby Banadera scored an easy 21-7, 21-11 decision against Anthony Fernandez and Joy Yumul in the mixed C, while Jeung Min and Dianne Francisco defeated the mother-son tandem of Alma and A.J.
