A Superior Court jury trial began yesterday in the case against a woman accused of stealing a $15,000 gold Rolex watch with diamonds and a $500 heirloom ring from a relative\u2014a then-74-year-old woman with disabilities. <\/p>\n
Emerita Quitano Camacho is on trial for one count of felony theft. Steven Pixley is her court-appointed counsel.<\/p>\n
The prosecution called four witnesses, including the alleged victim, who is now 75 and on a wheelchair.<\/p>\n
Police detective Catherine Pangelinan will continue her testimony when the trial resumes today at 9am. <\/p>\n
Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio is presiding over the trial. It is her first jury trial.<\/p>\n
Kim-Tenorio told Camacho to come to court on time today or she would have her detained at the Department of Corrections. <\/p>\n
Assistant attorneys general Heather Barcinas and Chester Hinds are prosecuting the case.<\/p>\n
Camacho\u2019s co-defendant, Frank Tudela Pangelinan, pleaded guilty in September to receiving stolen property. He was slapped with a nine-month prison term, with credit for 86 days of time served.<\/p>\n
Camacho allegedly went to the victim\u2019s house in Tanapag last Jan. 15 and 16 and stole her Rolex watch and Hawaiian heirloom ring, which is engraved with the owner\u2019s nickname. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
