(Jon Perez)<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nMarianas High School 9 and Saipan Southern High School pulled off contrasting wins over their respective opponents in the 2014 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Girls Basketball League last Monday at the MHS Gymnasium.<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Dolphins squeezed out a 29-28 win over Kagman High School\u2019s varsity squad, while the Lady Rays\u2019 varsity were merciless against MHS\u2019 junior varsity team in waltzing to a 49-20 decision.<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Dolphins used an early scoring barrage as enough cushion to withstand KHS\u2019 comeback bid in the fourth period and eke out the one-point win.<\/p>\n<p>MHS 9 led the entire game and built a 24-12 spread entering the final 10 minutes of play. But the Lady Ayuyus, with Trina Santos finally finding her shooting touch, mounted a furious rally in the fourth before missed shots foiled their chances of clinching the come-from-behind win. MHS 9  also used up most of the clock to preserve its lead.<\/p>\n<p>Shaina Abadilla and Abigael Bergosa tallied 9 points each for MHS 9, while Alyanna Garon contributed 6 markers. Santos scattered 10 points to lead Kagman\u2019s losing cause.<\/p>\n<p>In the second game, Saipan Southern bounced back from a 52-35 loss against Mt. Carmel School last Saturday when it pounded MHS\u2019 junior varsity, 49-23.<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Manta Rays led from the start and were never threatened since opening up with a 19-4 advantage after 10 minutes of play.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Kay Alferos, held to just 5 points in Southern\u2019s loss to MCS, erupted for 20 this time with Serafina Rogoyawa adding 10. Floresia Manibusan and Amilia Alegre combined for 15 points for SSHS.<\/p>\n<p>Martina Ada was the lone MHS player to finish in double digits with 15 points, while Marcy Ermitanio and Christine Acbo chipped in 6 and 2, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>First Game<\/strong><br \/>\nMHS 9 29 \u2013 Abadilla 9, Bergosa 9, Garon 6, Cardinio 2, Dalusong 2, Avelino 1.<\/p>\n<p>KHS 28 \u2013 T.
