{"id":182982,"date":"2014-10-27T04:00:29","date_gmt":"2014-10-26T18:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=182982"},"modified":"2014-10-27T04:00:29","modified_gmt":"2014-10-26T18:00:29","slug":"18-inch-rodent-causes-islandwide-power-outage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/18-inch-rodent-causes-islandwide-power-outage\/","title":{"rendered":"18-inch rodent causes islandwide power outage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A rodent caused an islandwide power outage on Saipan early Saturday morning, according to Commonwealth Utilities Corp. executive director Alan Fletcher.<\/p>\n<p>Those who were either awake, heading off to work, or heading back home early in the morning at approximately 5:28am experienced an islandwide power outage that lasted nearly three hours.<\/p>\n<p>In an email over the weekend, Fletcher told Saipan Tribune that an 18-inch rodent caused a short and arc flash explosion in the main substation transformer at Power Plant 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis short caused a heavy fault and immediate shutdown of the entire island\u2019s power supply.
