{"id":183057,"date":"2014-10-27T04:00:19","date_gmt":"2014-10-26T18:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=183057"},"modified":"2014-10-27T04:00:19","modified_gmt":"2014-10-26T18:00:19","slug":"hotel-nmti-partner-employing-local-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/hotel-nmti-partner-employing-local-workers\/","title":{"rendered":"Hotel, NMTI partner in employing local workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chalan Kanoa Beach Hotel currently has four employees who\u2019ve been trained by the Northern Marianas Technical Institute, and they are \u201clooking for more,\u201d according to the hotel\u2019s assistant general manager, Noel Roque.<\/p>\n<p>This is one reason why they donated on Friday a check worth $3,420.36 to NMTI to help support it in its efforts to provide the skills and trade education necessary to certify a local workforce.<\/p>\n<p>NMTI\u2019s education director Victorino Cepeda said their vision is to \u201ctrain our local people\u201d who otherwise have no job skills.<\/p>\n<p>Their program will help \u201cput them to work,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said all 160 students who went through the training program are now at job sites.<\/p>\n<p>He said NMTI wants to diversify the disciplines they offer, and hire more instructors to expand their nighttime program at Kagman High School into the other high schools.<\/p>\n<p>Also in the works is CK Beach Hotel\u2019s expansion of its facilities to include more rooms.<\/p>\n<p>Brian P. Reyes of RPCF, Inc., consultants for CK Beach Hotel, cited the island\u2019s high occupancy rate and the shortage of rooms on island that need to be addressed.<\/p>\n<p>He said the expansion would take one to two years to finalize.<\/p>\n<p>Crispin Santos, CK Beach Hotels\u2019 HR and room division manager, described the employees they have hired from NMTI as \u201cwell-skilled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNMTI is really helpful in providing local workers.
