Ada Gymnasium. (Jon Perez)

The Feds and the Department of Cultural and Community Affairs scored contrasting wins in the continuation of the 2014 IT&E-DYS Inter-Government Basketball League last Monday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The Feds rallied from a 13-point second-quarter deficit in scoring an 86-76 come-from-behind win over Department of Public Safety, while DCCA scored an easy 74-49 decision against Commonwealth Health Center.

The Feds, whose three-game winning run was stopped by DCCA’s 71-65 triumph last week, improved to 4-1, while DPS dropped its second straight game for a 1-2 record.

Marvin Rabauliman scored 9 points to help DPS open up with a 24-15 lead that further ballooned to 45-32 at the turn.

The Feds slowly and patiently trimmed DPS’ advantage and by the end of the third canto, cut it to single digit at 66-57. Ronnel Gamboa, who almost single-handedly kept the Feds afloat, scored 11 of his team’s 29 points in the fourth quarter, while holding DPS to 10 points to complete the comeback win. Gamboa finished with a game-high 35 points, Ken McCain added 13 markers, while Leo Apelo and Juan Camacho chipped in 12 apiece.

Edwin Camacho and John Sablan tallied 17 points each to lead the scoring for DPS, which lost despite firing 10 3-pointers in the entire game, while Shane Pua and Rabauliman combined for 27 markers.

In the second game, DCCA used its running game to overcome CHC’s size advantage in cruising to a 25-point win.

CHC kept it close after one quarter, 15-12, and was still very much in the game after staring at a 9-point deficit at the halftime break, 29-38. However, DCCA pulled away in the third as it poured 21 points and in the process limited CHC to just 6 markers the entire 10 minutes. DCCA was never threatened from there to hike its record to 2-1, while CHC remains winless after three matches.

Pangelinan paced DCCA with 19 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Brian Manabat scattered 10 markers and grabbed eight rebounds.

Brian Ajoste and Sam Fernandez combined for 22 points, five rebounds, and two assists to lead CHC’s losing cause while, Jonathan Nunag contributed 9 markers, 11 rebounds, and two steals.

Big man Tony Rajo, who got double and triple teamed every time he gets the ball inside the paint, ended up with 7 markers, eight rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

First Game
Feds 86–Gamboa 35, McCain 13, Apelo12, Camacho 12, Ogarto 4, Esteves 3, Sablan 3, Deleon Guerrero 2, Tyquenco 2.

DPS 76–Camacho 17, J.
