Several community members have expressed concern about the wilted look of the flowers at the U.S. Armed Forces Memorial in San Jose at the Atkins-Kroll intersection but the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office assured that this is a temporary situation.<\/p>\n
The mayor\u2019s senior adviser, Henry Hofschneider, told Saipan Tribune that the only reason why they have not been able to do any upkeep in the area recently is because of the heavy rains and the recent passage of Typhoon Vongfong.<\/p>\n
Some community members are concerned that the intersection\u2019s flowers, which used to be vibrant and fresh, have started to look stale and uncared for, with several of the flowers already withering away.<\/p>\n
Hofschneider said their staff had planted new flowers in the medians but the continuous rain killed majority of the plants.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose plants aren\u2019t meant for heavy rain. We\u2019re going to go back to fix the area,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Hofschneider noted that they will be planting new plants as well replacing those that have withered and died. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe are just waiting for the weather to be good so we can continue with the project,\u201d Hofschneider said.<\/p>\n
According to him, the plants were all replaced with new ones only last month..<\/p>\n
\u201cWe ask the public to be patient because we are trying our best to maintain the area,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
