Edited by Nicholas J. Goetzfridt, this volume includes historical perspectives on U.S. Naval rule on Guam, Chamorro \u201cadaptive resistance\u201d on Guam through indigenous roles as mayors and other officers during the Spanish administration of the island, and a detailed, illustrated survey and analysis of the Spanish network of lookout points for galleons and other ships approaching Guam.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Also included are papers on the historical and contemporary heritage of Filipino identities on Guam and the traditions and practices of the Yo\u2019\u00e5mte healing practitioner. \u00a0Studies on the South Pacific based short stories of Louis Becke and the conflicting dynamics between Japanese travel Journalist Kanetaka Kaoru \u2018s impressions of native women of Fiji and Papua New Guinea and indigenous realities conclude the volume.\u00a0 Several book reviews are also included.\u00a0 Papers are preceded by a note\/essay by Dr. Goetzfridt titled \u201cImperative Thoughts.\u201d<\/p>\n
