Babauta\/Torres supporter Juan I. Tenorio has thrown his political support firmly behind the Heinz and Ray runoff campaign. Tenorio, a former Cabinet official under governor Juan N. Babauta\u2019s administration, said he joins many other Babauta-Torres supporters in breaking away from Babauta\u2019s and Juan S. Torres\u2019 endorsement of the incumbent Inos-Torres team.<\/p>\n
\u201cMost of us [the former BT supporters] remain loyal to the compelling reasons for change,\u201d said Tenorio. \u201cWe are uniting behind the independent Heinz and Ray gubernatorial campaign, as this campaign represents the best hope for all disaffected and disenfranchised island residents who remain dissatisfied with the status quo.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tenorio said he is speaking out because he is \u201cnot afraid of IT\u201d and wants to encourage other voters to \u201cforget about IT\u201d in the runoff.<\/p>\n
Tenorio said the current administration has been in power for way too long, and that they will continue to exclude the majority from enjoying the benefits of security that they and their followers have enjoyed for 10 years now. <\/p>\n
\u201cAs a democracy, it\u2019s unhealthy for a political group, whether they call themselves \u2018Covenant Party members\u2019 one year or \u2018Republicans\u2019 the next, to be in power too long,\u201d said Tenorio.<\/p>\n
He also expressed concern about the growing lack of diversity in the investment community. \u201cWe have lived side by side with many investors from many places and I worry about losing the diversity that has characterized our economy so far.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cIt is dangerous,\u201d said Tenorio, \u201cto allow one group to dominate our economy and intrude into our political processes in the way that is happening now.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cPowerful people grow too arrogant, take the people for granted and become too entrenched; it\u2019s \u2018HY\u2019 time to restore a functional sense of balance in our democracy, because too many other people have suffered for too long.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have all heard the old saying about how power corrupts,\u201d said Tenorio. \u201cIt\u2019s \u2018HY\u2019 time to take some of that power back and restore it to the people through Heinz and Ray\u2019s new administration for more accountable, and more independent and transparent government.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
