The Joeten Kiyu Public Library is inviting the community to join them in celebrating the 2014 International Games Day tomorrow at the library compound from 10am to 4pm.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the first time the public library will be participating in this event,\u201d JKPL technical services librarian Rosalyn Ajoste said.<\/p>\n
International Games Day is an initiative run by volunteers from around the world under the auspices of the American Library Association. This partners up with Nordic Game Day and the Australian Library and Information Association to reconnect communities through their libraries around the educational, recreational, and social value of all types of games.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe library will have a variety of traditional board games on hand as well as computer gaming systems and gaming consoles and online gaming at our IT center,\u201d Ajoste said.<\/p>\n
Board games include Scrabble, Boggle, Apples to Apples, Chess or Checkers, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and card games. Game consoles include Wii and Xbox. <\/p>\n
\u201cIn the 21st century, libraries are about much more than books. This Saturday more than one thousand libraries around the world will showcase gaming programs and services in support of International Game Day,\u201d Ajoste said.<\/p>\n
JKPL registered in early November but was not early enough to join the worldwide Minecraft competition or Global Gossip Game. This will be a pilot for JKPL\u2019s participation in the future. The library welcomes donations of board games or in-kind.<\/p>\n
