{"id":185181,"date":"2014-11-17T04:00:07","date_gmt":"2014-11-16T18:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=185181"},"modified":"2014-11-17T04:00:07","modified_gmt":"2014-11-16T18:00:07","slug":"grilled-cheese-cookoff-raises-1450-island-charities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/grilled-cheese-cookoff-raises-1450-island-charities\/","title":{"rendered":"Grilled cheese cookoff raises $1,450 for island charities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The second annual Grilled Cheese Cookoff was held yesterday at Garapan Central Park pavilion, with awards going out to the top competitors in the Suhweet, Purist, Crowd Favorite, and Whodathunkit categories.<\/p>\n<p>Last night\u2019s event raised up to $1,450 for the CNMI Salvation Army\u2019s soup kitchen and the Soroptimist International of Northern Mariana Islands. Chan)\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>The event was limited to 20 competitors and featured hotel chefs, couples, and sole practitioners of the grilled cheese arts.<\/p>\n<p>For crowd favorites, first place went to Team Hyatt. They brought the Cajun-style of New Orleans to the competition. Second place went to Pimento Pals, and third place went to Say Cheese.<\/p>\n<p>For the purist category, Christopher Jones, an instructor of psychology at Northern Marianas College, won first place. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI won something in my life! I\u2019m going to Disneyland. I can\u2019t believe it,\u201d he quipped upon receiving the award.<\/p>\n<p>Second place went to Honeymooners and XOXO.<\/p>\n<p>Under the Suhweet category, first place went to the Madden Mustached Methologists, made up of sisters Laila and Farah Boyer. Second place went to Cellar Charms\u2019 Jean Rayphand, and third went to Pineapple Express.<\/p>\n<p>For the Whodathunkit Category, first place went to William Duffy. He loaded his grilled-cheese concoction with barbecued pulled-pork. Second place went to B\u2019s Bistro and CheeRio.<\/p>\n<p>Shelly Scott organized the event. Representatives of both charities judged the competition with island dignitaries and a professional chef.
