\nDefending champion Marianas High School played a double-header on Friday at the MHS Gymnasium, but showed no signs of fatigue after pummeling its two opponents in the 2014 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Girls Basketball League.<\/p>\n

MHS\u2019 first victim was its sister team MHS 9, 45-18, and after a 15-minute break the former had enough gas tank left in hammering out a 63-13 win over Saipan Southern High School. Both teams proved to be an easy prey for the Lady Dolphins, as MHS 9 and the Lady Manta Rays showed little resistance.<\/p>\n

The Lady Dolphins, who remained undefeated after eight games, had a slow start against MHS 9 as they only led by 4 after 10 minutes of play, 10-6. They then slowly pulled away in the second before putting the game out of reach in the third. MHS used a balanced offense and a swarming defense in frustrating MHS 9, which committed numerous errors and missed a lot of shots.<\/p>\n

Mikayla Lopez led the Lady Dolphins\u2019 scoring with 9 points, while Negahr Rastguiy and Joy Pena added 8 apiece. Kyla Ito finished with 7 markers. Dulce Avelino and Maria Dalusong combined for 14 points for MHS 9, which dropped to a 4-3 record.<\/p>\n

Against Saipan Southern, Dianne Pablo erupted for 20 points, while Gabrielle Race added 12 markers in another easy win.<\/p>\n

The Lady Dolphins pulled away early in the first and held the Lady Mantas to a single field goal in the second period to cruise to victory<\/p>\n

Patrisha Echavez\u2019s baseline drive gave MHS a 20-point bubble, 26-6, with 17.7 seconds left in the opening period, but she sprained her left ankle after making the shot. Serafina Rogoyawa made Saipan Southern\u2019s first and only field goal at the 1:51 mark of the second quarter, but MHS was still comfortably ahead, 36-8.<\/p>\n

Rogoyawa finished with 4 points for SSHS, Catherine Roque had 3, while Janmilla Alegre, Kristine Pude and Nikki Yutuc each scored 2 each.<\/p>\n

In last Wednesday\u2019s results, Janasia Travilla and Tawnie Manibusan combined for 43 points as Mt. Carmel School completed a 69-32 crushing of Kagman High School, while SSHS scored a 47-33 decision against MHS junior varsity.<\/p>\n
