The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.\u2019s Division of Public Health held its walk for Diabetes Awareness Month at Oleai Beach last Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\nDPH\u2019s Non-communicable Disease Bureau held the \u201cWalk on Wednesday\u201d as a means to promote awareness of how diabetes can affect one\u2019s health.<\/p>\n

Over 20 attended the walk, which started at 4pm and ended at 6pm. <\/p>\n

NCD also had a blood pressure and blood sugar checkup for walkers, while Hatha Day Yoga instructors held a brief yoga exercise for participants before the walk.<\/p>\n

Northern Marianas College nursing students and Hardt Eye Clinic helped with the blood pressure and blood sugar level check.<\/p>\n

NCD Bureau administrator Becky Robles said those who were found with high blood pressure or sugar levels were referred to the Commonwealth Health Center or other private clinic.<\/p>\n

She said their goal is to get people moving more. \u201cThis walk was held so that people can be more aware of their health,\u201d Robles said.<\/p>\n

She said free health screenings are being done at the hospital\u2019s Family Care Clinic throughout the month of November. The screenings are ongoing until Nov. 28.<\/p>\n

In a separate interview, CHCC chief executive officer Esther Mu\u00f1a said these activities are being done to make everyone aware of their health.<\/p>\n
