Directed by 2014 AlumKnight Dominic Travilla, Saipan Pride Rice is a cultural comedy in which a Chamorro boy and a Filipino girl work with their families to get married.

The show stars Mount Carmel seniors William Camacho and Savannah Lyn Delos Santos as Goro Boy and Mahal, respectively. Since their parents have passed away, Goru Boy and Mahal bring their grandparents together to break the news of their engagement and plan the wedding. Trouble ensues when their grandparents clash over where the wedding will be held, which unleashes other conflicts between cultures, generations, and genders.

For his part, Camacho was very pleased with the way the show turned out. “It was my first time being in a Theatre Club production, so I was nervous. But in the end, it turned out very well.”

It was also the first time Delos Santos had performed in a MCS Theatre Club production. “It was hard work but worth it. Everybody did a great job on the show.”

The film also includes Itchakomi Romolor and Peter Babauta as Goru Boy’s paternal grandparents, Brianna Hunter and Victor Cabrera as Goru Boy’s maternal grandparents, Andrea Manese and Jaime “Sam” Soledad as Mahal’s paternal grandparents, and Jackie Doctor and Michael Ortizo as Mahal’s maternal grandparents.

The show’s airing is made possible by the generous support of Flame Tree TV and Production Company and its president and managing director, Chris Nelson.
