{"id":186249,"date":"2014-12-01T04:00:02","date_gmt":"2014-11-30T18:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=186249"},"modified":"2014-12-01T04:00:02","modified_gmt":"2014-11-30T18:00:02","slug":"cuc-developing-new-policy-deceased-account-holders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/cuc-developing-new-policy-deceased-account-holders\/","title":{"rendered":"CUC developing new policy for deceased account holders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. is developing a name-change policy for new or existing customers using previous accounts of past users, according to CUC executive director Alan Fletcher.<\/p>\n<p>He said this is in line with the board\u2019s push for a smoother and easier operation so that those using previous accounts of deceased users wouldn\u2019t cause any problems for CUC.<\/p>\n<p>Fletcher said he doesn\u2019t know how many consumers are currently using past accounts and that it could be a problem for CUC in the future for incoming users.<\/p>\n<p>The CUC board recommended that management create a name-change policy so that there wouldn\u2019t be problems when they collect on past accounts.<\/p>\n<p>CUC board chair Dave Sablan Jr. said that CUC should prioritize the transition for new customers, so that they could clean CUC\u2019s records of deceased individuals whose accounts are still listed as active.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is the collection aspect when unpaid bills from the deceased and those using past accounts don\u2019t want to pay and might say that they aren\u2019t responsible for that account because it is not theirs,\u201d Fletcher said.<\/p>\n<p>He said it is important for everyone who is receiving any service from CUC that the name they place on the account is accurate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI still don\u2019t understand why sometimes someone doesn\u2019t change the account name. Maybe they are trying to avoid the CUC deposit for creating a new account or they may have a different reason.
