(Jon Perez)<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nShirley\u2019s Badminton Club dropped the second half of its match-up with Community Badminton Club, but had enough points to seal the second finals berth in the 8th Annual Traders Insurance Badminton Team Tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Shirley\u2019s, entering its final match up against CBC last Friday at the TSL Sports Complex, was holding on to a 4-point lead over its opponents, 62-58. CBC needed at least a 10-5 decision last weekend in to clinch the second finals berth, but it only managed an 8-7 win, giving Shirley\u2019s the right to face Saipan Badminton Club in the championship match. The defending three-time champion SBC bagged the first finals slot after collecting a whopping 80 points, leaving Shirley\u2019s and CBC to fight for the other berth in the deciding Friday duel.<\/p>\n<p>CBC lost a chance to set a finals date with SBC, as it collected 66 points against the 69 of Shirley\u2019s. The youth-laced club would have to settle for the battle for third place against Golden Racquets .  Consolatio games and finals final were played last Sunday and results were unavailable at press time.<\/p>\n<p>In the CBC-Shirley\u2019s match, the former quickly collected 3 points after Andreau Galvez and Jen Savellano dispatched the latter\u2019s pair of Ferdie Arago and Windy Fernandez, 21-20, 21-12, in the mixed A division.<\/p>\n<p>Shirley\u2019s evened things up after Fernandez and Lani Bartolome scored an easy 21-12, 21-8 decision over CBC\u2019s Janelle Pangilinan and Havika Farro in the women\u2019s AB.<\/p>\n<p>Shirley\u2019s moved ahead following Leo Xu and Patrick Fernandez\u2019s 21-14, 21-17 win against the CBC pair of John Costales and Jeremi Montejo in the men\u2019s C.<\/p>\n<p>CBC needed to seal a 2-game win in the women\u2019s C to keep its finals hopes alive. Three points are awarded to a team that wins a match in two games, while 2 points are given to the winning squad and one to its opponent if the match goes to three.<\/p>\n<p>The CBC tandem of Patricia Abantao and Micky Caracut eventually got the victory, but was forced to go the full route against Joy Yumul and Vilma Reyes before escaping with a 14-21, 21-20, 21-19 win.
