The Public School System has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the National Governor\u2019s Association to participate in a project called \u201cPrincipal Effectiveness,\u201d according to Education Commissioner Dr. Rita Sablan, who announced the grant at a CNMI State Board of Education meeting last week.<\/p>\n
The project is an effort to review policies regarding principal effectiveness in school districts, she said. The CNMI is one of the several states that have been identified to participate.<\/p>\n
PSS will be working with Sarah Silverman, NGA\u2019s program director for its education division, she said. The commissioner will establish a committee with the BOE chair and other PSS officials and principals.<\/p>\n
Their work will include reviewing some of the data relative to \u201cwho we have in place in the Public School System\u201d as well as PSS\u2019 regulations and policies, she said.<\/p>\n
NGA\u2019S Silverman leads projects on teacher and leader effectiveness, according to NGA, which includes teacher and principal performance management and personnel systems and connections between early childhood and K-12 education.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
According to NGA, she also helps state leaders identify and implement performance management strategies that ensure all students have access to high quality education.<\/p>\n
