{"id":187563,"date":"2014-12-18T04:00:14","date_gmt":"2014-12-17T18:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=187563"},"modified":"2014-12-18T04:00:14","modified_gmt":"2014-12-17T18:00:14","slug":"rota-mayor-louisiana-check-cargopassenger-ship-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/rota-mayor-louisiana-check-cargopassenger-ship-island\/","title":{"rendered":"Rota mayor off to Louisiana to check on cargo\/passenger ship for island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rota Mayor Melchor Mendiola is on his way to Louisiana to check and finish up on certifications for a $1.6-million retrofitted cargo and passenger ship that will help bring both passengers and cargo to and from Rota, Saipan, Tinian, Guam, and the Northern Islands.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview yesterday evening, Sen. Victor Hocog (Ind-Rota) disclosed that Mendiola had gone to Boise, Idaho and from there he would fly to Louisiana to finish up certifications that needs to be worked on.<\/p>\n<p>The certifications that need to be worked on are the requirements of rescue and passenger boats that will be on the ship.<\/p>\n<p>Hocog said that it is possible that he will be hearing from Mendiola this Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce the certification is done then we\u2019re ready to go,\u201d Hocog said.<\/p>\n<p>In an earlier interview, Hocog said that the 150-foot, 500-ton cargo ship will be highly needed on Rota in terms of bringing in food and supplies and ferrying passengers to and from Rota.<\/p>\n<p>Luta Mermaid LLC owner Takahisa Yamamoto made this possible investing a minimum of $1.6 million for the ship as reported earlier.<\/p>\n<p>This ship can accommodate 18 passengers and carry up to 28 20-ft. containers. <\/p>\n<p>Hocog earlier also said that it will be great for Rota\u2019s long-standing problems of shortage on food and other commodities every time the barge cannot reach Rota due to rough waters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rota Mayor Melchor Mendiola is on his way to Louisiana to check and finish up&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[42,51,541],"class_list":["post-187563","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-food","tag-guam","tag-northern-islands"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/187563","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=187563"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/187563\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=187563"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=187563"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=187563"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
