The University of Guam Endowment Foundation announced the release of the Lina\u2019 La-ta: A Musical Odyssey DVD at a press conference on Dec. 15, 2014 at the UOG Student Services Center Rotunda. The Chamorro concert that was held in March of 2014 has been preserved and recorded to DVD to capture Guam\u2019s first ever Chamorro concert of this magnitude. <\/p>\n
According to Mark Mendiola, executive director of the UOG Endowment Foundation, \u201cThe creation of this DVD provides a great opportunity to showcase our island\u2019s talent. Part of the University of Guam\u2019s mission is to document historic activities, and this is a major historical activity as we place our talented artists on a larger stage within Micronesia.\u201d <\/p>\n
Music legend and Lina\u2019 La-ta artist Johnny Sablan says, \u201cThis DVD has it all \u2013 a collection of Chamoru Music Artists [who are] songwriters and entertainers, singing of the past, in the present, and for the future! Minagof na kontribusion.\u201d <\/p>\n
A portion of the proceeds from the DVD sales will benefit the University of Guam\u2019s 60th Anniversary Capital Campaign in its mission to help build a 21st century University of Guam campus. <\/p>\n
The University of Guam Endowment Foundation appreciates the talent and support from the featured artists on this DVD. The 60th Anniversary Capital Campaign was launched to ensure that the resources at the University will continue to provide a place for young, aspiring, Chamorro artists to hone and develop their craft, and to ensure another sixty years of growth and achievement. <\/p>\n
