{"id":188431,"date":"2014-12-30T04:21:30","date_gmt":"2014-12-29T18:21:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=188431"},"modified":"2014-12-30T04:21:30","modified_gmt":"2014-12-29T18:21:30","slug":"voyagers-rule-tuesday-budweiser-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/voyagers-rule-tuesday-budweiser-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"Voyagers rule Tuesday Budweiser Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Jokers IT&#038;E Voyagers defeated Jonny\u2019s Crazy 8, 9-5, in the finals of the season-ending Budweiser Cup Tuesday 8-Ball Billiards League last week at the latter\u2019s home bar in Garapan.<\/p>\n<p>It was the Voyagers\u2019 second straight division crown as they also ruled the regular season, defeating elimination round top-notcher Saipan TV Hustlers in their title game on Dec. 2.<\/p>\n<p>It was a tight contest from the start as neither team gained an advantage in the last match of the year. (Contributed Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Jonny\u2019s crew of Rey Pinangay, Rodel dela Cruz, Rey Hermogenes, and Rey Ayson matched every shot made by Mark Butac, Brian Nelvis, Rolly Villanueva, and Roman Rodriguez to force the deadlock.<\/p>\n<p>Butac teamed up with Nelvis in another doubles 8-ball match and easily defeated Pinangay and Ayson to give the Voyagers a 5-4 edge.<\/p>\n<p>Rodriguez and Nelvis, who won all of the 6 matches he played, then scored consecutive wins over Pinangay and Ayson to move the Voyagers two victories away from clinching the crown, 7-4.<\/p>\n<p>Dela Cruz kept the Crazy 8\u2019s title bid alive when he bested RJ Mascarinas in their contest. That proved to be Jonny\u2019s final win, as the Voyagers were victorious in the final two events.<\/p>\n<p>Butac and Nelvis downed Pinagay and dela Cruz in the doubles, while Rodriguez sealed the win for the Voyagers after dispatching Pinangay in the last singles 8-Ball event.<\/p>\n<p>The Voyagers scored a 9-8 win over the Hustlers in the opening of the Budweiser Cup then followed it up with a 9-6 decision over the Jokers Str8 Shooters to clinch a finals berth.
