Former Northern Marianas College chief financial officer Roger Madriaga has joined the Office of the Public Auditor.<\/p>\n
Madriaga, who also used to be the manager of Administration and Operations at the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, joined OPA last Nov. 10.<\/p>\n
OPA said it is pleased to add Madriaga to its team, adding that his extensive financial, federal grants, and management background will be an asset to the agency.<\/p>\n
\u201cMadriaga offers a considerable amount of knowledge in government accounting and will assist OPA with managing its fiscal affairs and other critical projects,\u201d said OPA.<\/p>\n
The longtime CNMI resident graduated with a master\u2019s degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1994. Prior to his graduate studies, he earned two bachelor\u2019s degrees\u2014one in business administration and another in social sciences\u2014from University of Hawaii at Hilo.<\/p>\n
Aside from CFO of NMC, Madriaga had worked as the college\u2019s director, associate director for the Office of Planning, Evaluation, and Grants, and assistant director for the Office of Research, Planning and Evaluation.<\/p>\n
During his tenure at NMC, Madriaga was instrumental in implementing rigorous financial controls and cost efficiencies as well as compliance with federal and CNMI and board policies. He was also part of a working group that developed the college\u2019s first budget manual.<\/p>\n
Madriaga\u2019s eight years at OVR saw him assisting in overseeing the agency\u2019s budgeting processes, planning activities, research and evaluation functions, human resource management, financial management, audit resolutions, and program assessment activities.<\/p>\n
OPA is an independent agency of the Commonwealth government tasked with the reponsibility to audit the receipt, possession, and disbursement of public funds and to perform such other duties as required by law.<\/p>\n
Public Auditor Michael Pai, who was sworn in for another six-year term at the helm of OPA last Dec. 18, heads it. This came after the House of Representatives and the Senate unanimously approved his reappointment last November. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
