A new chiller is on the way to help keep fresh the produce in the Garapan Public Market, according to CNMI\u2019s Farmer Cooperative Association treasurer Ike Concepcion, who along with other co-op officials help run the market.<\/p>\n
Earlier co-op president Maria \u2018Frica\u2019 Pangelinan expressed that a lack of a chiller to keep produce from rotting was one of the problems the market faced since it opened last August.<\/p>\n
In September, the market had asked for funds from the Saipan and Northern Islands Delegation to help address operational costs and a chiller.<\/p>\n
The delegation heard the market\u2019s needs when they appropriated $60,000 for the market last month. Concepcion said the market has ordered the new chillers in advance.<\/p>\n
In regards to the appropriated \u201cseed money,\u201d co-op secretary Isidoro Cabrera said yesterday morning that he aimed to deliver to the secretary of Finance a letter for the disbursing of this money.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are starting to have improvement [in the market] already,\u201d he said. \u201cWe purchased in advance the cooler\u2026as soon as we get the money we can pay the company,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The chiller was ordered form a local supplier.<\/p>\n
In related news, Cabrera said they aim to have an election of officers at their general membership meeting this month on Jan. 13, barring any changes in member\u2019s schedules.<\/p>\n
