The Ol\u2019Aces dropped their opener against the Sonics late last month.<\/p>\n<p>Nakashima Nakashima top-scored for the Ol\u2019Aces with his 10 points, while four of his teammates contributed at least 6 points apiece. Adrian De Luna and Tristan Montes added 8 markers apiece and E.J. Ermitanio and Dave Bucayo had 6 apiece. Bucayo registered all his points in the second half and 4 of the Ol\u2019Aces\u2019 last 6 points to foil Sun Palace\u2019s repeated comeback bids.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/tanbasket-pix.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/tanbasket-pix-283x300.jpg\" alt=\"The Ol\u2019Aces\u2019 Leonardo Cristobal, 15, plays tough defense on the Sonics\u2019  Gerald Flores, while their teammates jockey for position during their game in the 2014 Tan Holdings Basketball Classic last week at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium. The Ol\u2019Aces and Sonics had mixed fortunes last Friday with the former winning over Sun Palace, 48-45, and the latter losing to Rollers 1, 62-70. (Roselyn B. Monroyo)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sun Palace was forced to rally on several occasions as it trailed right at the get-go with the Ol\u2019Aces enjoying an 8-point lead at the break, 25-17. Nakashima led the Ol\u2019Aces in the first 20 minutes of play, firing 8 points, while Montes added 6.<\/p>\n<p>Aaron Pamintuan was the lone Sun Palace player to hit more than one field goal in the first half, allowing the Ol\u2019Aces to take control of the match. His teammates began stepping up in the second half, but the Ol\u2019Aces converted timely baskets to withstand Sun Palace\u2019s runs.<\/p>\n<p>In the second boys division match, Kobee Mendoza powered Rollers 1 to a 70-62 win over the Sonics.<\/p>\n<p>Mendoza sizzled for 21 points to hand Rollers 1 a 2-0 record. Mike Arciaga and Angelo Factor backed him up, adding 12 markers apiece.<\/p>\n<p>Jaymark De Guzman led the Sonics\u2019 losing cause with his 20 markers. The Sonics fell to a 1-1 slate.<\/p>\n<p>Mendoza dropped 13 of his total output in the first half, including Rollers\u2019 1 last 6 markers in that period to give his team a 40-31 lead.
