BANMI will be holding an election next week with the board tasked to map out the group\u2019s various activities for the year.<br \/>(Jon Perez)<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nThe Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands will be reorganizing the board as its officials plan to let a younger group take over the reins of the organization.<\/p>\n<p>BANMI president Tony Rogolifoi said that he will be stepping down and will be calling for an election on Jan. 15 at 5:30pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room.<\/p>\n<p>Rogolifoi said his duties as executive director of the Northern Marianas Sports Association is the main reason he decided to give up the BANMI post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have to step down because I\u2019m already swamped with work here at NMSA. We\u2019re going to be busy with the resurfacing of the track and there are other things lined up and I won\u2019t be able to perform my duties as BANMI president with that,\u201d Rogolifoi added.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s requesting all BANMI stakeholders, members, and the current officers to attend next week\u2019s meeting and elect new members of the board.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to reorganize BANMI, open the New Year fresh, and give opportunity to others,\u201d said Rogolifoi. \u201cWe want to bring in new faces and have a younger group that would steer the organization into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rogolifoi said once they elected the new set of directors, members of the board would select among them the president and the other officers of BANMI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce the new president takes over, he can now discuss what events, leagues, and projects BANMI will be organizing for the year,\u201d said Rogolifoi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey will have their own agenda so we\u2019re giving them the freehand to discuss them. We\u2019re just here to guide them. We welcome ideas that would help the organization further promote basketball in the CNMI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BANMI organizes and sanctions basketball events in the CNMI and forms the national teams that have been competing in various basketball events in the Micronesian and Oceania regions.<\/p>\n<p>They haven\u2019t had a national championship and NMSA is asking all member federations to hold one every year.
