Bordallo issued the following statement Tuesday regarding a recent report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, “Pivot 2.0: How the Administration and Congress Can Work Together to Sustain American Engagement in Asia to 2016.” The report highlights the importance of funding military construction projects in Guam and the Asia-Pacific region and adds to the progress that has been made to move the President’s broad Asia-Pacific rebalance strategy, and specifically the realignment of Marines from Okinawa to Guam, forward.

“I appreciate the findings contained in this CSIS report, which underscore the importance of the rebalance strategy and the need for Congress to continue to fund military construction projects in Guam and the Asia-Pacific region,” said Bordallo. “This report builds on the progress that we made in the most recent defense authorization bill to support the rebalance strategy and get the Guam build-up back on track. I commend CSIS for their work to maintain bipartisan support for the rebalance and look forward to working with my colleagues to continue this support during the 114th Congress. It’s important to continue to focus on the rebalance strategy and make sure that we are putting resources toward this important strategic endeavor.

“I also appreciate CSIS’s findings regarding the impact sequestration has had on our military and the negative implications it will have if Congress does not prevent another round of sequestration cuts next fiscal year. It is critical for Congress and the Administration to work together to prevent another round of sequestration and give our services the resources and guidance they need to carry out their mission.”

The CSIS Report can be found online at: http://csis.org/publication/pivot-20.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Delegate Madeleine Z.
