Two new backhoes for the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office are anticipated to arrive by the end of January, according to Saipan Mayor Marian Tudela.<\/p>\n
Tudela said the two backhoes will be shipped from the port of Long Beach, California on Jan. 7 and the mayor\u2019s office is expecting their arrival on Jan. 30.<\/p>\n
Tudela said a brand new dump truck will also be shipped from the same port on Jan. 30 and is expected to arrive in the CNMI in late February.<\/p>\n
In an earlier letter, special adviser Henry S. Hofschneider told Tudela that the 2015 Ford F-750 four-wheel drive dump truck is estimated to arrive on Feb. 20 to 25, while the two CASE 580SN four-wheel drive loader backhoes are expected to arrive on Jan. 15 to 20.<\/p>\n
The Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office is responsible for paying the shipping cost from California to Saipan. This is estimated to cost $10,800 to $11,000.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese three heavy equipment are very critical to the needs of our people. Without some heavy equipment we might rely on rentals and that is just too costly and we don\u2019t have enough funding for that,\u201d Tudela said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just hope that the next Legislature works more closely with Mayor David Apatang in addressing these issues because it is very critical that we help the community when it needs us to clear some roads or other duties requiring heavy equipment,\u201d Tudela said.<\/p>\n
The purchase of these new equipment was made possible after the mayor\u2019s office got $100,000 from the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation and $413,000 from the Office of Insular Affairs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
