{"id":189105,"date":"2015-01-09T04:00:55","date_gmt":"2015-01-08T18:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=189105"},"modified":"2015-01-09T04:00:55","modified_gmt":"2015-01-08T18:00:55","slug":"dolphins-mantas-beat-foes-contrasting-fashion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/dolphins-mantas-beat-foes-contrasting-fashion\/","title":{"rendered":"Dolphins, Mantas beat foes in contrasting fashion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Defending champion Marianas High School and Saipan Southern High School\u2019s junior varsity defeated their respective foes in contrasting fashion during the opening day  of the 2014 Marianas Interscholastic Boys Basketball League last Wednesday at the MHS Gymnasium.<\/p>\n<p>The Dolphins,  who have a roster heavily stacked with scorers at all fronts, showed their strong intention of retaining the crown with an easy 74-20 shellacking of Grace Christian Academy,  while SSHS pulled off a 34-27 decision against Kagman High School\u2019s junior varsity side. MHS beat Kagman High School, 37-36, on a Mike Arciaga putback in last year\u2019s finale to get the crown they last won in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>In their first game of the season, the Dolphins zoomed to an early 18-8 lead after 10 minutes of play and were never threatened after that as the Eagles showed little resistance.<\/p>\n<p>Prince Factor led MHS\u2019 balanced scoring with 15 points, while Michael Espinosa chipped in 13 markers. Karlo De Leon, Kobee Mendoza, Tristan Montes, and D-Jay Ong combined for 34 points.<\/p>\n<p>Winson Yu was the lone GCA player who scored in double digits with 10.<\/p>\n<p>Saipan Southern, meanwhile, used a late scoring run down the stretch to escape with a 34-27 win in a low scoring JV game against Kagman.<\/p>\n<p>No Southern player hit double digits with Maku Ogasawara leading his team with 7 points and June Alipio, Isaac Anderson, and Art Borromeo chipping in 6 each.<\/p>\n<p>Roke Tenorio paced all scorers with 14, while Darion Jones finished with 7 for Kagman.<\/p>\n<p>Southern JV and MHS varsity joined  MHS 9 in the win column, as the latter kicked off the action in the MISO caging with a 42-32 victory over KHS 9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Second Game<\/strong><br \/>\nSSHS JV 34\u2013Ogasawara 7, Alipio 6, Anderson 6, Borromeo 6, Taitano 5, Cruz 4.<\/p>\n<p>KHS JV 27\u2013Tenorio 14, Jones 7, Castro 4, Quitugua 2.<\/p>\n<p>Scoring by quarters: 10-4, 18-16, 24-22, 34-27.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Third Game<\/strong><br \/>\nMHS 74\u2013Factor 15, Espinosa 13, De Leon 9, Mendoza 9, Montes 8, Ong 8, Manalili 5, Malonzo 4, Benavente 3.<\/p>\n<p>GCA 20\u2013W.
