Atalig and Northern Islands Mayor Jerome K. Aldan took their oaths of office yesterday morning at the Governor\u2019s Office and was sworn in by Gov. Eloy S. (Jayson Camacho)\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>Atalig, dressed in white long-sleeved button-down shirt and a slim black tie, took his oath in the presence of his family members.<\/p>\n<p>Aldan, on the other hand, was draped in cultural accessories including a mwar mwar, beaded necklaces, and a tea leaves lei, over a suit with a light blue button-down shirt.<\/p>\n<p>After his swearing in, Atalig said he will seek to increase the salaries of municipal employees. It was earlier reported that salaries for government employees on Rota haven\u2019t changed since 1995.<\/p>\n<p>Atalig also wants to create an alternative means of transporting goods to and from Rota and a vocational school to help train the island\u2019s residents.<\/p>\n<p>Aldan said he is thankful to the people of the Northern Islands for believing in him and voting for him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first work of order is to try to get the people their lands. That is what I will be working, both agricultural and village homesteads,\u201d Aldan said.<\/p>\n<p>Other than that, Aldan said he plans to look at some economic activities that have been planned for the Northern Islands since his father\u2019s time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a lot of work ahead of us including the military, which is still looking at Pagan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Aldan, the military meeting on Pagan is set for today, Jan. 13, at 3:30pm at the Governor\u2019s Office where a news briefing will be held shortly afterwards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rota Mayor Efraim M.
