The federal court has imposed a 30-month prison term against Bao Zhong Wang, who pleaded guilty to distribution of methamphetamine or \u201cice.\u201d<\/p>\n
At a sentencing hearing on Monday afternoon, U.S. District Court for the NMI Senior Judge Alex R. Munson gave Wang credit for time served.<\/p>\n
Munson recommended to the Bureau of Prisons that Wang be made to participate in a substance abuse treatment program.<\/p>\n
Upon completion of his prison term, Wang will be placed on three years of supervised release.<\/p>\n
Among the conditions of the supervised release is that Wang shall be turned over to an immigration official for deportation.<\/p>\n
Wang will be required to perform 100 hours of community service, pay a $100 special assessment fee after sentencing, and forfeit to the U.S. government the proceeds of the sale\u00a0 of \u201cice\u201d in the amount of $1,350.<\/p>\n
Assistant U.S. attorney Ross Naughton recommended a 30-month prison sentence, which is the low end of the sentencing guidelines. Court-appointed defense counsel Steven Pixley also recommended the same.<\/p>\n
Munson granted the U.S. government\u2019s motion to dismiss the remaining charge as part of the defendant\u2019s plea deal with the prosecution.<\/p>\n
Wang was remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshal.<\/p>\n
In May 2014, Wang pleaded guilty to distribution of methamphetamine as part of a plea deal with the U.S. government.<\/p>\n
The offense carries a maximum penalty of a 20-year prison term and a $1 million fine.<\/p>\n
According to the factual basis of the plea agreement, on Nov. 27, 2012, Wang, 46, sold 4.7 grams of 97.4 percent pure methamphetamine to a confidential source for the Drug Administration in exchange for $1,350.<\/p>\n
