(Jon Perez)

It was Mt. Carmel’s first win after dropping a 68-54 decision against Saipan Southern High School last Friday.

The Knights pulled away early in the match behind Ganjo Gamab’s three straight 3-pointers—the only baskets he made in the entire game—to enter the second period enjoying a 17-6 spread.

MCS was hardly threatened after that and while it scored in bunches, MBA was mediocre on the other end.

The Stormz would have an awful shooting from the floor if stats were recorded in the league.

They issued a lot of wayward passes, committed forced or hurried shots, and piled up turnovers that helped the Knights’ cause.

William Camacho led MCS’ balanced scoring with 12 points while Gamab no longer scored after hitting three straight 3-pointers in the first quarter for his 9 markers. Mark Toves finished with 8, while Son Jung Hyun and Zander Tkel added 7 each.

No MBA player hit double digits with Song Ki Boon ending up with 5, while Jung Young Jin, Toshio Takayama, Christian and Ryoo Young combined for 10 points.

In the first game, June Alipio scattered 20 points, while JP Taitano had 12 to lead Saipan Southern’s junior varsity team to a 57-32 thrashing of Kagman High School 9.

The Mantas slowly break the game wide open in the second period where they limited the Ayuyus’ point production to four to enter the halftime break with a 26-12 lead.

SSHS just cruised from there and enjoyed several 20-point leads, which Kagman failed to bring down to a respectable number.

Meanwhile, in last Monday’s results, defending champion MHS varsity recorded its second blowout win following a 79-34 drubbing of Kagman.

D-Jay Ong scored 16 points to lead three other Dolphins who hit double digits. Prince Factor had 13, while Kobee Mendoza and Michael Espinosa tallied 11 and 10, respectively. Ong and company were gunning for their third straight win last night as they faced SSHS varsity at press time.

In other matches last Monday, Kagman’s junior varsity team coasted to a 57-41 triumph over SSHS 9, while Grace Christian Academy banked on Lee Dong Ha’s 17 markers in a 46-29 crushing of Saipan International School.

WEDNESDAY
First Game
SSHS JV 57–Alipio 20, Taitano 12, Muna 9, Aque 7, Diyco 5, Anderson 4.

KHS 9 32–Ogumoro 10, Arceo 9, Mendiola 5, Babauta 4, Agulto 2, Rabauliman 2.

Scoring by quarters: 12-8, 26-12, 47-26, 57-32.

Second Game
MCS 59–Camacho 12, Gamab 9, Toves 8, Son 7, Tkel 7, Deleon Guerrero 5, Hahn 5, Amog 3, Santos 3.

MBA 15–Song 5, Jung 3, Takayama 3, Christian 2, Ryoo 2.

Scoring by quarters: 17-6, 46-10, 53-12, 59-15.

MONDAY
First Game
KHS JV 57–Jones 17, Tenorio 14, Castro 13, Quitugua Jr. 9, Aguon 2, Maniego 2.

SSHS 9 41–Malasarte 13, Siech 12, Cobacha 7, Bondoc 4, Diyco 3, Ejercito 2.

Scoring by quarters: 13-10, 17-20, 34-26, 57-41

Second Game
MHS V 79–Ong 16, Factor 13, Mendoza 11, Espinosa 10, Benavente 8, De Leon 7, Malonzo 7, Manalili 7.

KHS 34–Palino 13, Sakisat 11, Paran 4, Faisao 2, Racadio 2, Torres 2.

Scoring by quarters: 32-16, 49-21, 65-30, 79-34.

Third Game
GCA 46–Lee 17, Libut 11, W.
