{"id":189553,"date":"2015-01-16T04:00:49","date_gmt":"2015-01-15T18:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=189553"},"modified":"2015-01-16T04:00:49","modified_gmt":"2015-01-15T18:00:49","slug":"korean-orchestra-jams-manta-ray-band","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/korean-orchestra-jams-manta-ray-band\/","title":{"rendered":"Korean orchestra jams with the Manta Ray Band"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Yeosu Gifted Youth Orchestra, in tandem with the Southern High School Manta Ray Band, filled the American Memorial Park stage last Wednesday night with music.<\/p>\n<p>The orchestra featured dozens of student musicians from South Korea\u2019s city of Yeosu, and the renowned Manta Ray Band. The Public School System and Yeosu Office of Education recently established a memorandum of understanding to establish a sisterhood relationship to promote educational and cultural exchange.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday night\u2019s performance featured a joint concert with the Yeosu Orchestra and Mantas jointly playing the compositions Stars and Stripes Forever and Arirang.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, the orchestra first wowed the packed crowd with compositions like Light Cavalry Overture, Yesterday, Gabriel\u2019s Oboe, tunes from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie and Tears in Mokpo.<\/p>\n<p>The Mantas, with their conductor William Dewitt, played Sinatra!, Land of Make Believe and other pieces.<\/p>\n<p>Conductors for the Yeosu orchestra were Du-Sup Park and Sung-Won Kang.<\/p>\n<p>Park said in an interview that he hoped to visit Saipan again soon.
