{"id":189903,"date":"2015-01-21T04:00:42","date_gmt":"2015-01-20T18:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=189903"},"modified":"2015-01-21T04:00:42","modified_gmt":"2015-01-20T18:00:42","slug":"farmers-co-op-eyes-new-board-resolve-divisions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/farmers-co-op-eyes-new-board-resolve-divisions\/","title":{"rendered":"Farmer\u2019s co-op eyes new board to resolve \u2018divisions\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With \u201cdivisions\u201d and lack of support besetting the current board, an election of new board members is on the agenda for the CNMI Farmer\u2019s Cooperative Association\u2019s first general membership meeting, whenever it does occur, according to co-op officials.<\/p>\n<p>It was earlier reported the meeting would be held on Jan. 14 but this has been pushed back.<\/p>\n<p>Co-op treasurer Ignacio Concepcion said yesterday that only three board members supported the market: himself, president Maria \u201cFrica\u201d Pangelinan, and secretary Isidoro Cabrera.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are seven [board members] and the [other] four don\u2019t ever come here,\u201d he said, adding that officials have selected and confirmed a new set of seven board members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe informed them already. They agree, so what we\u2019ll do is have a meeting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The January meeting was postponed because the co-op did not have enough time to notify the members by letter, according to Cabrera in a separate interview.<\/p>\n<p>He said the market is \u201ctrying to form a board.\u201d He said he would plan with Pangelinan for the next meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are trying to organize and select people who really support the market, because the present board is divided. There are board [members] in the co-op who are supporting the Sabalu [Market].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He described this as a \u201ca big conflict of interest.\u201d He said they are trying to have a board \u201cwho in their heart support the co-op.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are seven board [members] right now, and only three are active in supporting the co-op. The other four are not supporting the co-op. They never go there [to the market] and sell, and are members of the Sabalu Market,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Sabalu Market has been labeled as the Garapan market\u2019s competitors. They operate in the Susupe area on Saturdays.<\/p>\n<p>According to Cabrera, the current board members are Pangelinan; vice president JM Guerrero; himself, Concepcion, Manuel Borja, Ramon Camacho, and Jesus Castro.<\/p>\n<p>There are 70 or so co-op members, according to Cabrera.
