The two backhoes the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office received last Friday still requires clearance before they could be used, according to special adviser Henry Hofschneider.<\/p>\n
He said the clearance requires paying for the shipping of the heavy equipment. The two backhoes were shipped from Long Beach, California at a cost of $23,025.<\/p>\n
Both backhoes arrived on the evening of Jan. 23, 2015.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have not cleared it yet so it is still at the Commonwealth Ports Authority property in Puerto Rico and we still need to clear the shipping bill,\u201d Hofschneider said.<\/p>\n
The equipment will be used for clearing of secondary roads.<\/p>\n
Once the backhoes are cleared and released to the mayor\u2019s office, it will then be up to the operations division and Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang to decide on which specific projects will worked on at once.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll look at all the requests that came in first. We\u2019re very thankful we got those [new equipment] and ask the public for their patience while we look at all the pending request,\u201d Hofschneider said.<\/p>\n
Another heavy equipment, a dump truck, will be shipped out from Long Beach, California on Jan. 30 and should get here in 20 to 25 days, or sometime in late February.<\/p>\n
The equipment were purchased using about $100,000 from the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation and $413,000 from the Office of Insular Affairs last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
