Bordallo has been reappointed the Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Readiness. As the Ranking Member, Bordallo is the senior Democrat of the Readiness Subcommittee, which has broad oversight of issues important to the Asia-Pacific rebalance and Marine realignment to Guam. She was also appointed to the Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces.

The Subcommittee on Readiness is responsible for the single largest account within DOD’s budget. It oversees military readiness, training, logistics and maintenance issues and programs, military construction, installations and family housing issues, and the BRAC process. It also oversees civilian personnel, energy security, and environmental issues that affect DOD. The Readiness Subcommittee makes sure that our troops are properly trained and their equipment is properly maintained so they can succeed in their missions, and that they have the facilities and services they deserve when they return home.

The Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee has oversight over the Navy and Marine Corps programs. Through its authorization for Navy and Marine Corps procurement and R&D programs, this subcommittee is committed to reversing the decline in the Navy battle force fleet, strengthening the naval air component, and providing the Marine Corps warfighter with essential equipment for combat operations.

“The Readiness Subcommittee oversees many issues important to our community, including military construction, family housing, base closures, and realignments and related energy and environmental issues,” said Bordallo. “I am pleased that I will continue to serve as the panel’s Ranking Member, and I thank my Democratic colleagues on HASC for their continued confidence in me. During the 113th Congress, we made progress on many issues that ensure that our military is well equipped to carry out their mission, and I am looking forward to continuing our bipartisan work during the 114th Congress.

“We also made significant progress to move the build-up forward, including removing the remaining restriction on using Government of Japan funds for the Marine realignment to Guam. I appreciate the positive working relationship I have had with Readiness Chairman Rob Wittman, and I look forward to serving with him on the Subcommittee.”

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Delegate Madeleine Z.
