{"id":191321,"date":"2015-02-09T04:00:26","date_gmt":"2015-02-08T18:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=191321"},"modified":"2015-02-09T04:00:26","modified_gmt":"2015-02-08T18:00:26","slug":"mva-continue-rights-saipanda-mascot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/mva-continue-rights-saipanda-mascot\/","title":{"rendered":"MVA to continue with rights to Saipanda mascot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Marianas Visitors Authority board of directors voted for a licensing agreement to continue its rights to the Saipanda mascot, at their board meeting last Friday.<\/p>\n<p><a attid=\"191324\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Saipanda-pix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Saipanda-pix-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Saipanda pix\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-191324\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The mascot is popular among Japanese tourists, and is merchandized in places like T Galleria on Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>MVA chair Marian Aldan Pierce, who is also DFS president, recused herself from the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of their decision, MVA looked into the \u201crelevance of the Saipanda mascot\u201d to offshore offices in Japan, Russia, Korea, and China.<\/p>\n<p>Three options were presented: to continue with the mascot rights, retire, or sell these rights.
