Carmel School student Keona A. Camacho was recently selected to become a member of The National Society of High School Scholars, which recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship, and community commitment. The announcement was made by NSHSS founder and chairman Claes Nobel, a senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment that Keona demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence,\u201d said Nobel. \u201cKeona is now\u00a0 a member of a unique community of scholars\u2014a community that represents our very best hope for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Camacho is the daughter of Daniel Camacho and Roxanne Diaz, who expressed happiness at their daughter\u2019s accomplishment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs parents, we are always proud of our children\u2019s accomplishments and in this token, we are extremely proud of our daughter for achieving this great milestone in her life. As she matures in life, I\u2019m hopeful that this achievement will propel her to do extraordinary things for herself and her community,\u201d said Daniel Camacho.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always tell my daughter that hard work pays off. Things may be difficult at times, but the difficulty is a test to prove that you can overcome it. And when you do, that will tell you that nothing is impossible. Only you can make it happen. We love you and we will be there to guide you along the path to success,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Membership in NSHSS entitles qualified students to enjoy a wide variety of benefits, including scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, free events, member-only resources, publications, participation in programs offered by educational partners, personalized recognition item, and publicity honors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur vision is to build a dynamic international organization that connects members with meaningful content, resources, and opportunities,\u201d said NSHSS president James W. Lewis. \u201cWe aim to help students like Keona build on their academic successes and enhance the skills and desires to have a positive impact on the global community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Formed in 2002, the National Society of High School Scholars recognizes academic excellence at the high school level and encourages members of the organization to apply their unique talents, visions, and potential for the betterment of themselves and the world. Currently there are more than 1 million Society members in over 160 countries.
