A passenger of a moped was injured when it collided with a car that was making a turn into the Gilber C. Ada Gymnasium\u2019s parking lot in Susupe last night, police said.<\/p>\n

Terry Camacho Cabrera, 23, sustained lacerations and bruises on the legs and was taken to the Commonwealth Health Center.<\/p>\n

Department of Public Safety spokesman Travis Hurst said the car\u2019s driver, Brendan Abner Fernando Venus, 50, was not injured.<\/p>\n

The report did not mention whether Venus was given a traffic citation.<\/p>\n

Hurst said DPS Central received a call at 6:09pm about a vehicular crash along Beach Road in front of the Ada Gymnasium.<\/p>\n

Police officers responded and saw a damaged three-wheeled moped with its engine still running and smoke emanating from it. The officers also saw a red Toyota Corolla sedan at the northernmost exit of the parking lot.<\/p>\n

Officers closed both north- and southbound lanes of Beach Road for a period of time to ensure the safety of motorists in the event of a fire from the moped.<\/p>\n

Hurst said investigation showed that the moped was travelling north on the outer lane of Beach Road when the car from the southbound lane made a left turn into the gym\u2019s parking lot.<\/p>\n

Hurst said the car failed to yield the right of way to the moped, causing the moped to collide with the rear left side of the car.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
