{"id":192684,"date":"2015-02-26T04:00:04","date_gmt":"2015-02-25T18:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=192684"},"modified":"2015-02-26T04:00:04","modified_gmt":"2015-02-25T18:00:04","slug":"torres-accuses-muna-lying-board-meeting-issue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/torres-accuses-muna-lying-board-meeting-issue\/","title":{"rendered":"Torres accuses Mu\u00f1a of lying on board meeting issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_192687\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-192687\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Joaquin-Torres.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-192687\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Joaquin-Torres-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Torres\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-192687\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Torres<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_192686\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-192686\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Esther-Muna.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-192686\" src=\"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Esther-Muna-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Muna\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-192686\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Muna<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. board chair Joaquin Torres accused CHCC chief executive officer Esther Muna yesterday of lying in her explanation why the board has not had any meetings since May last year.<\/p>\n<p>Muna earlier told Saipan Tribune that she had communicated with board members, especially with Torres, with regards to the holding of board meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Torres said that Muna\u2019s attempt to clarify the issue is another lie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[She] needs to stop lying to herself and to the public,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd if she disputes that she is not lying, then she should produce proofs that she did in fact communicate with members of the board and I about board meetings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mu\u00f1a said that Public Law 16-51 states \u201cthe CEO [has the power] to convene from time to time as the CEO determines necessary and appropriate meetings of the board.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Torres said he knows that Mu\u00f1a has the authority to convene the board from time to time but she never balked at him calling for the meetings until her time to be evaluated came up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was the procedure since Oct. 24, 2012. She had never questioned the authority of the board to call a meeting. She questioned the authority of the board for the first time when the agenda for the meeting included her annual evaluation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Torres said he submitted a \u201cNotice of Special Meeting\u201d on Oct. 28, 2014, to Muna\u2019s secretary, with copies to all board members, including Mu\u00f1a, for publication in the Saipan Tribune.
